Turner Field Site Visit
November 11,2010 we toured Turner Field the home of the Atlanta Braves. We started off in the Braves Museum that had jersey's, awards, and photos from that year's star player. They had Braves franchise leaderboards for all categories. We went up to Sky Field and saw the huge Coke Bottles and the chopping Chick Fila cow that is always shown on telivision. Than we walked into the 755 Club named after the amount of home runs Hank Aaron had in his career. This is where alot of their suites were for buisness' and people that are willing to spend alot of money. The next thing we saw was the media portion of Turner Field to see where MLB official and media personel worked from during games. We also saw the TV booth from where the games are telivisied and where the brodcasters sit. The next part of Turner Field we visited was the clubhouse level where they had their x-ray room and other medical facilities. We got to peak into the Braves clubhouse, but not allowed inside. We went out onto the field next which was incredible.

Georgia Dome/Georgia Tech Site Visit Summary
November 2nd,2010 our Sports Administration class visited Georgia Tech and the Georgia Dome. While at Georgia Tech they showed us the gym with all the workout equipment, raquet ball and squash courts. They took us up stairs where they had a large area for basketball courts and three rooms for specific classes. They also had an indoor hockey setup. They had a 39 foot rock climbing wall also in the workout area. In Georgia Tech's facility they had the Olynpic pool and diving area that was used in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our next trip was to the Georgia Dome. Our tour guide took us up to the the area where offensive and defensive coordinators. He showed us where the press and media sections. He showed us different type of suites and showed us every level for fans to go and see the game. He took us into the locker room which was not as big or nice as I thought it would be. It looked like a traditional locker room. The coolest part of the tour was going on the field which is probably a once in a lifetime kind of deal. There a few potential career paths with both organizations. At Georgia Tech you can help clean the place, teach certain areas and help people that dont know what exactly to do. The Georgia Dome you can work with the Falcons in the media, ticket sales, marketing, field mateinence, stadium mateince. You could also work in customer service.

canton ymca site visit
On Wednesday September 14th our sports administration class visited the Canton YMCA for our first site visit. In our site visit we sat in a classroom and recieved information on YMCA the organization and how the Canton YMCA is ran. We walked thru the lobby area where members checked in. We were shown the indoor pool where aquatic classes are taken, the basketball gym where full court basketball is played on Tuesday nights. There was also an indoor track facility so people could run and a gym with different weight machines and treadmills. You could be a lifeguard, teacher of a class, or work on the staff handling marketing and memberships. What I learned from the site visit is that the Canton YMCA is involved greatly in the community and that there are over 9,000 members at the Canton YMCA alone.

Guest Speaker Summary 2
September 7th,2010 Vic Mitchell came in and spoke to our class. He is the women's basketball coach at Shorter and also serves as the associate athletic director. His first job was as the women's basketball's coach at Reinhardt when it was a junior college. He got his undergraduate degree at UGA and served as a graduate assistant in the early 1980's. He is from southwestern Georgia and he spent six years at Reinhardt until moving on to Shorter. He coached slow pitch softball and started up women's cross country and women's golf. One of his points that struck me the most was that you should research the job before applying and make sure its a place you can be succesful. At Shorter they have to turn in an athletic budget and that Shorter uses athletics to increase revenue and bring in profits for the school. He also said you have to be able delegate and let the coaches do their jobs instead of trying to micro manage. Fundraising is significant to sustaining a program.

Tuesday in class Peggy Feerhrey came in and spoke in our sports administration class. She is the career services director at Reinhardt University. She talked about the importance of finding a good internship and take assesements to find out what we are good in and what we should do. For a person like me trying to narrow down what I want to do this is important. She also talked about the importance of our resumes. They need to look professional and look good. She talked of two ways of doing this putting your work expierience in chrononological order and putting the things about you that stand out at the top of the resume. While putting the weaker things at the bottom such as my education and GPA. I had already heard her speak to my principles of marketing class and it was the same exact speech.

Who Killed Pat Tillman?
In the tragic case an NFL player doing his duty for his country was killed in action. Two years after his death the Department of Defense has launched a new investigation. His battalion was ambushed and people have said that he was killed by enemy fire and he was rewarded a Purple Heart. The battalion behind their group had a different perspective of what happened. They say the Army Rangers fired upon Tillman and many people wonder why Tillman is being glorified during a firefight in which he was killed? If he was killed by friendly fire why conceal it? The Pentagon covered it up for five weeks only to say he was killed by friendly fire. Pat Tillman went from an average safety to the most famous United States Army Ranger.

super bowl
A. The Super Bowl is the biggest spectacle in sports. The biggest game on the biggest stage in primetime with millions of people watching. A day people jump on a bandwagon and cheer for a team. Parties are a major theme with many people gathering in a house to watch the game, cookout and have a few beers. Celebs throw huge parties to watch the game. A Concert was put on to raise money for the victims of Haiti. To help restore and rebuild a country devasted by a tragic event. Also leading up to the Super Bowl pre-game coverage starting from right after the confrence title games ESPN starts talking Super Bowl. Yes it gets old just like having to hear the will Brett Farve come back or is Barbaro still alive. Personally I could careless I sang hallejuah when they said Barbaro was dead. To me thats how Super Bowl coverage is. Its annoying and I'm sick of hearing it.
B. This years game I was rooting for the Colts. Big Peyton Manning fan and would have love to see his legacy cemented as an NFL great. Two of the greatest offenses and two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL now going at it. The pressure was all on Peyton. Trying to cement a legacy and beat his father's old team and the team he grew up rooting for as a kid. The commercials werent as funny as years before but there were still a few. Companies put alot of money into putting in a Super Bowl commercial because the revenue generated after is high.
C. THe Super Bowl is an American spectacle, but still in my mind is not America's pastime. Maybe this is because I'm a baseball nut and that sport is my love. The Super Bowl is the most watched sport on telivision with over 105 million watching the game. Its all about having a good time, getting together and having a few beers and watching a football game.
